BANK OF IRELAND
Gold Leaf on Historic Stone Sign in Newry
When the Bank of Ireland branch in Newry needed to restore the sign at the entrance of their stunning historic building, they entrusted us with the job of bringing its original elegance back to life — and we couldn’t have been happier to take it on.

Traditional Gilding for the Bank of Ireland – Hand Painted Sign Restoration in Newry
This project was all about restoring the existing stone sign, which had faded with time and weather. our mission: to make it shine again without losing its character. And for that, only the best materials would do — we used 23.5 carat Italian gold leaf, applied entirely by hand with traditional gilding techniques.
One of the main challenges here was the surface itself: gilding directly onto the building’s stone façade, which is never completely smooth. Add to that the fact that we were working several meters up, and this project definitely kept us on our toes. But we love this kind of challenge — it’s where precision and patience really pay off.
The most heartwarming part? The reaction from the public. People stopped to ask questions, admire the process, and cheer it on. The project even got shared on social media by locals — proof that traditional craft still captures attention and appreciation.
Whether it’s for a corporate heritage building or a family-run business, we treat every sign with the care and respect it deserves. This one now shines brightly once again, proud on the front of a beautiful building in the heart of Newry.
