Swipe left and let me take you on a tour through @titanicdistillers at the Thompson Docks in Belfast.
This summer I custom designed, hand painted with traditional techniques and gilded with 23 ct gold a beautiful whiskey mirror for them.
In the process of developing the concept for this glass I had the pleasure to have a tour through this iconic building during it’s remodeling.

Thompson Docks is the Pump House that was used during the construction of the Titanic, and I had the pleasure to walk down it! This place is full of history everywhere you look. On one hand Titanic Distillers wanted a traditional Whiskey glass, just like the ones produced in times pas in the city of Belfast. On the other hand it is a way of honoring the different trades and craftsmanship that created this history, of which Signwriting is one of them.

As you enter the building everything looks very modern, white and minimalist, there is where my glass is displayed. But once you open the door leading into the distillery you’re transported to a world of blue. The walls and ceiling have been painted in blue for over 100 years as they are protected under heritage regulations, and that is why the shadows on my gilded glass are blue!

This is the most ambitious glass I have painted so far. Custom designed, hand painted with traditional techniques and gilded with real red gold 23ct.

This whiskey glass was 100% designed and painted by me. But behing the essence, there was @perry_signs_london helping me to move the glass, giving me advices and making me laugh. For all that, I’m immensely grateful to you 🙏🏻💛

Sometimes there are projects that arrive and trans

Sometimes there are projects that arrive and transform you, and this whiskey mirror for @titanicdistillers was one of those.
This project was a gift of life for me and a great opportunity to grow as a signwriter and person.

My client wanted a traditional whiskey glass for the new Titanic Distillers at The Pump House that opened earlier this year in the iconic and historial Titanic Quarter in Belfast. He wanted something traditional, elegant and eye catching. Nailing the design was quite easy, but executing the project was a massive undertaking.

Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. The first glass broke, there were delays with the orders, I couldn’t find some materials in the UK, I faced Brexit barriers to get materials over and more. I knew every technique included in the design, but the other variables of the project, such as how to transport the glass from London to Belfast, what glass to get that will endure the transit, and how to frame it, we’re things that demanded a lot of research, care and thought.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone that took the time to discuss with me different aspects of this project (signwriters, glass experts, joiners, frame makers, and my family and friends). Without the support of all of you this glass wouldn’t be a reality.

Embarking on a project of this scale is not only limited to the techniques of how to paint and gild. It also implies knowledge about glass, wood, frames, chemicals, transportation, drying times, installation and above everything stress management.

There were nights I couldn’t sleep, days where my doubts and fear were big, but thank God, there were friends and loved ones that held me through. Today I look back at those nights and I only can be grateful I found the way to stay strong, to see myself, to trust in God and my skills as signwriter.

Today I can say that thanks to this beautiful gilded glass I am a better signwriter, gilder and person. I definitely feel this glass put me in a better place professionally and personally and for that I’m infinitely grateful 🙏🏻✨
