Gilding Stone Letters with Gold Leaf at Bank of Ireland, Lurgan
This grand old building sits proudly in the heart of Lurgan’s town, its name spelled out in raised stone letters, beautifully sculpted in white architectural stone.
Over time, the lettering had lost its shine and faded into the background. Our task? To gild those monumental characters and restore their original grandeur—making the name stand out once more, bold and bright.
The result? A transformation. The gold gleams in the sunlight and gives the entire building a renewed sense of presence. It was a joy to bring that glow back to such a beautiful piece of Lurgan’s architectural history.
Gilding stone in relief is a delicate process—its textured, uneven surface demands patience and precision. Every detail matters, especially when working at a height of 3 metres with a ladder, carefully positioning it to preserve both the letters and the historic façade.
For a job like this, only the finest materials would do. We used 23.5 carat Italian gold leaf, applied by hand using traditional gilding techniques.
